If a closed space, a house or shelter, is conceived as an intimate and protected place, for Beatrice it creates the opportunity to play with her imagination and bring the viewer to a different space-time location. Using seemingly simple and easily recognizable forms - branches, leaves or starry skies - Beatrice tries to reveal a more ancestral dimension, that in a fantasy universe we conveniently perceive as possible.
The exhibition features works and installations created over the past year: paintings on canvas, drawings on paper, embroidery on tulle, and large installations made of colored wooden structures and pulled threads, delicately intertwining. The silhouettes of these pieces are rich in symbolism, recalling images from our dreams, but referring not only to night dreaming. The focus of the exhibition is in fact the daydream, in the sense of a vision or hallucination able to broaden our perception. The leaf becomes a forest, the star becomes a whole cosmos...
To access the exhibition's core, after bypassing the installation at the entrance, one must cross a curious gate made of leaves, a forest, which conceals and reveals at the same time. A few details anticipate what will be beyond, but only by going through this cascade of leaves - installation titled Threshold Of A Dream – it is possible to enter the dream designed by Beatrice. From here, each person is abandoned to its own dreamlike journey. On the walls, elegant graphite drawings on Japanese paper surround the space. A black and white dream, in which spatial cognition is surpassed, without location, nor clear direction... what Beatrice most desires is to foster an increase in uncertainty and to bring us closer to a mysterious dimension. The forest is vital silence, that is disrupted by the advent of life. This body of works is encapsulated in the Rêverie della Foresta series (Forest’s Rêverie); rêverie meaning precisely a fantasy in which to walk.
The journey continues and the vision opens to a boundless space. The gaze rises from the dense forest and gets lost in the immensity of the universe. On the deepest wall of the gallery, five paintings on canvas render the image of a starry night sky: La Segreta Geometria della Notte (The Night’s Secret Geometry). It recalls the time of the transition from night to day. The vision changes completely; from the complex reticle of the forest, where any spatial reference is nullified, now the stars return a point of reference. It's like finding back yourself after being lost.
Three more installations revive the space of the exhibition - Desiderio (Desire), A Dive Beyond and Gateway. These are conceived as portals, combining wooden frames of reminiscent shapes and delicately weaved pastel-coloured threads. The series - which ideally revolves around the possible journey to other worlds, to the Elsewhere - moves across the boundary delineated by the interwoven threads, between the known world and another unexplored dimension, as windows on the unknown.
